Today we’ll cover the third key, Assemble An Attractive Personality. Hill lists 25 aspects to a pleasing personality. Many overlap so I’ll just briefly touch on each. My idea is to post this list on my bathroom mirror so I see it multiple times a day.
Positive Mental Attitude (PMA) – This influences your tone of voice, posture, facial expressions, health, emotions and every thought you have.
Flexibility – not just physically, but ability to adapt to circumstances and situations quickly and easily. Understanding the other’s needs and demands and adapting.
Sincerity of Purpose – “Be sincere first of all with yourself, and you will steadily grow in self-reliance.”
Promptness of Decision – Successful people reach decisions quickly and rarely change.
Courtesy – develop the habit of respect for other’s feelings at all times.
Tact – doing and saying the right thing at the right moment.
Tone of Voice – We all know that the way something is said can make a word or phrase gentle or hurtful.
The Habit of Smiling – The simple action of sincerely smiling can change our own feelings and those of people around us.
Facial Expression – This goes with the tone of voice and smiling. Be aware of what your expression is saying. Is it in congruence with your words??
Tolerance – “being patient and fair toward those whose opinions, practices, and beliefs differ from yours.” Not replacing your own, just acceptance that they are allowed theirs.
Frankness of Manner and Speech – Consistently speak and act directly and honestly with others.
A Keen Sense of Humor – laughter and a well-developed sense of humor aids in varying situations and circumstances.
Faith in Infinite Intelligence – This faith in yourself, belief in your project, in others, in life, is vital to success in any arena.
A Keen Sense of Justice – a dedication to intentional honesty.
The Appropriate Use of Words – Let your language reflect your careful and attentive efforts.
Effective Speech – Become adept at using words to convey clarity, meaning, and your purpose.
Emotional Control – be able to identify the feelings which motivate your emotions, and learn their triggers for each of the 7 negative and 7 positive emotions.
Alertness of Interest – Listening well and fully. Focus on the speaker, the message completely.
Versatility – maintain up-to-date learning on issues of the day, and outside interests other than business. Become a Renaissance man or woman.
Fondness for People – Others can sense your true feelings, show an alert interest, tolerance, and respect for others.
Humility – “People who are strong in faith are always humble of heart.” It helps me to remember that we are all human, came into this world and will leave in the same manner.
Effective Showmanship – this is a blending of all the traits to produce favorable attention whenever necessary.
Clean Sportsmanship – Fair play, using flexibility, tact and humility.
A Good Handshake – an invaluable, simple skill. Practice if necessary, firm, friendly, and maintained while you are greeting.
Personal Magnetism – We are each born with a certain amount of this sexual energy. We can channel what we have into creating enthusiasm, genuine fondness for people, style, voice, gesture, posture into and for our projects.
This content is in Napoleon Hill’s book, Keys To Success. But just reading it, although very helpful, is not enough. You must study it, practice it and discuss it.
