Today we’ll cover the tenth key, Think Accurately. Interestingly, Hill uses the analogy of cultivating the mind as you would a garden. It takes planning, work, attention, and nurture to cultivate a beautiful, productive garden, as it does with our minds.
The thinking process, for accurate thinking, is based on Inductive reasoning > from experience and experimentation and drawing conclusions; and Deductive reasoning > conclusions based on general logical assumptions. Both can work together to provide information for planning and action. Separate facts from opinions, fictions, unproved theory, and hearsay; and then separate facts into important and unimportant.
Paying attention to your own thoughts, motives, beliefs and experience, you will see that information you receive will fit all categories. It is up to you to determine how best to sort and use this information. Use your intuition, your faith, your knowledge and your objectivity to make these determinations.
I am a gardener, I love working in the dirt, digging, planting, harvesting. I know how important having a well-designed plan is to the success of the garden. I plan my time as well as the garden layout, what I will plant, what help I need from others, and more. I do this using these techniques. You know, I always did this, but didn’t know there were some ways to improve my thinking, my planning and my success. Learning and practicing increases your understanding, your knowing and your ability.
This content is in Napoleon Hill’s book, Keys To Success. But just reading it, although very helpful, is not enough. You must study it, practice it and discuss it.
